UNSW Engineering 60th Years of Excellence
Engineering Sports Day 2009

optimus_player.png What better way to celebrate the 60th birthday of the greatest Engineering Faculty in Australia by picking up a free snag and a cold one at the BBQ for all Engineering students. While you're relaxing on the grass in the sun on a lazy Thursday afternoon (something Engineering students rarely have time for) make sure you cheer on your footy team in the Annual Engineering Sports Day competition.

Civil Engineering are the defending champions from 2008. The traditionally strong teams from Mech, Elec, Mining and Chem are back for revenge, with the Computing, Petroleum and PV/Surveying teams are harbouring some secret weapons in their ranks.

If you want to play for your society/school then check out the teams section below on how to contact your society. Every team must provide someone to referee one game, so if you have a decent grasp of the rules and can judge 5m then contact your society as well.

When: Thursday 6th August 2009 (Week 3)
Time: 12pm - 4pm
Where: Village Green
Cost: Everything is FREE
Food & Drink: The free BBQ will include sausages, including vegetarian and halal options. We will also have beer and soft drinks available.

CheerSoc will be there to help you cheer on your team. There will also be competitions and great prizes (like a textbook voucher), and a Navy helicopter will also be landing on the Village Green throughout the afternoon.

Touch Footy Rulesshow rules

  • Players on the field are 6 in total and must include one girl. Unlimited interchange, let referee know. Players must be in team colours!!
  • Guy tries 1 point girl tries 2 points.

  • Ball or player outside boundary results in turnover.
  • Drop ball (forward or backward) results in turnover.
  • Forward passes will result in turnover.
  • If the ball is touched in flight by a defending player and is caught by an attacking player the play continues and the touch count restarts at the next touch.
  • At the end of the game if the score is even, golden point extra time up to 5 minutes can be played. A coin will be tossed to determine who starts with possession and the first team to score a point in this time wins the game.
